Collodion portrait of unidentified man, a confederate ancestor of Alta Rowe Barnes, in case, with ring and cane touched up. Extensive damage on case, with lid separated. Accompanying hot wax imprint of image's ring: "GARDEZ BIEN" and coat of arms. Also with accompanying image, a poem on newsprint: "When after many battles passed, both tired with blows make peace at last is it after all, the people get? Why taxes, widows, wooden legs and debt."
